Water Vision@2047

Recently, the first All India Annual States’ Minister two days Conference on ” Water Vision@2047″ was held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. At this conference, Prime Minister highlights the significance of Conference of Water Ministers for bringing synergy between different government programmes and the importance of circular economy in the field of water conservation.
About Water Vision@2

- The objective of this conference is to deliberate on Water Vision for India for the next 25 years as part of larger plan of India@2047.
- It aims to bring together key policymakers for debating and deliberating on ways to optimally utilize water resources for holistic development in sua stainable manner.
Various initiatives launched during Water Vision@2047
- National Framework on Reuse of Treated Waste Water
- It provides a local source of water for cities and industries and obviates the need to transfer freshwater from a distant source, fostering self-reliance.
- National Framework on Sediment Management
- It helps to understand the interactions, intersections, and information exchange that are necessary to manage sediment sustainably.
- Sub portal of “Jal Itihas” under WRIS
- It showcases some selected water heritage structures more than 100 years old.
- Highlights best practices under Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain
- “Catch the Rain” campaign was launched by the Ministry of Jal Shakti with the tagline “Catch the Rain – Where it falls When the falls”. Its objective is to nudge the states and all stakeholders to create Rain Water Harvesting Structure with people’s active participation.
- Water Vision Park
- To be established to promote the idea of afforestation to achieve the goal of water conservation.
Present status of Water in India
- Indis is among the most water-stressed country in the world.
- It has 18% of the world’s population, but only 4% of the water resources.
- NITI Aayog Report on Water Crisis mentions that 600 million people are facing high to extreme water stress.
- In Water Quality Index, India is placed 120th among 122 countries, with nearly 70% of water being contaminated.
- Water is a State subject (State list Entry No. 17).
