PM SHRI Schools Scheme

Recently, a total of 165,382 schools across the country have applied with Ministry of Education for PM SHRI Schools Scheme. The maximum number of schools that have applied are from Uttar Pradesh, followed by Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
About PM SHRI Schools Scheme
- The full form of PM SHRI is Pradhan Mantri ScHools for Rising India, launched in September 2022.
- Under the scheme, more than 14,500 schools are to be developed as PM SHRI Schools to showcase all components of National Education Policy 2020.
- Then, PM SHRI Schools will act as exemplary schools which provide mentoring and leadership to other schools in their vicinity.
- It will create and nurture holistic and well-rounded individuals equipped with the skills of the 21st century.
- The scheme is to be implemented with a total outlay of ₹ 27360 crore for the period of five years from 2022-23 to 2026-27.
- More than 18 lakh students across the country are expected to be direct beneficiaries of the scheme.
Key features of PM SHRI Schools Scheme
- Equitable and Joyful school environment
- It will provide high-quality education in an equitable, inclusive, and joyful environment that takes care of diverse backgrounds and different academic abilities of children.
- Leadership
- It will provide leadership to other schools in their vicinity by providing mentorship.
- Green Schools
- They will be developed as Green Schools by incorporating environment-friendly aspects like solar and LED lights, waste management, plastic-free, water conservation, climate change related hackathons, and awareness generation to adopt environment-friendly lifestyles, etc.
- Comprehensive Pedagogy
- The pedagogy adopted in PM SHRI Schools will be more experimental, integrated, play-based, and inquiry-driven.
- Holistic Assessment
- Assessment will be based on conceptual understanding and application of knowledge to real-life situations.
- Assessment of resources in terms of availability, adequacy and appropriateness will be done in a systematic and planned manner.
- School Quality Assessment Framework (SQAF)
- Quality assessment of these schools will be done at regular interval by SQAF.

Implementing Strategy
- It will be implemented through existing administrative structure available for Samagra Shiksha, NVS, and KVS.
- PM SHRI schools shall be monitored vigorously to assess their progress and understand the challenges faced by them in implementing NEP 2020.
Selection Methodology
- It will be done through Challenge Mode where schools compete for support.
- Existing schools being managed by Central/State/UT Governments/Local bodies are eligible to apply under the scheme.
- Selection of schools will be done through three-stage process:
- Stage 1: States/UTs would sign MOU agreeing to implement NEP 2020.
- Stage 2: A pool of schools that are eligible would be identified based on minimum benchmark through UDISE+ data.
- Stage 3: Based on challenge method. Only those schools shortlisted in Stage 2 would compete to fulfill challenge conditions.
- Maximum two schools per block/ULB would be selected and Geotagging of selected schools will also be done.
