India Skill Report 2023 was released Wheebox in partnership with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). It is the tenth edition of Skill Report, examines the strategic overview of India’s skill and Talent Economy by 2030.

Highlights of India Skill Report 2023
- India’s employability rate has increased from 46.2 to 50.03%.
- There are more qualified female resources available than male resources, with 52.8% highly employable women and 47.2% highly employable men.
- The consistent increase of qualified female resources demonstrate India’s educating the girl child and modernizing the social norms of ancient times.
- The age group between 22 and 25 was found to be the most employable, with 55.67% being highly desirable.
- With the highest average of employability score B.Com, MBA and B.Tech graduates were identified as a highly employable majority.
- The states with highest concentration of young people with highly employable skills were determined to be Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh.
- The demand of skill labour is being driven by e-commerce, pharmaceutical and IT/ITES sector.
- Although, still over 33% of women are working, the ratio of men to women indicates that more men are employed than women.
- For every job position, soft skill such as problem solving, adaptability and flexibility, stress management etc will become non negotiable.
- The report recommended to instil the required vocational and skill development programmes in secondary, higher secondary and undergraduate education.
Government initiatives for skill development in India
- Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY) flagship skill development program of MSME benefited 10 million youth over the period of 2016-2020.
- Recognition of Prior Learning Programs
- Establishment of 37 Sector Skill Council which work closely with the industry to ensure industry related skill training.

- Empowering rural India through Jan Sikshan Sansthan which provide vocation skill to non-literate person and school dropouts upto 12th standard in the age group of 15-45 years.
