NMCG Capacity Building Programme under Arth Ganga Project

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has recently launched Capacity Building Programme for Leveraging Community and Local Resources based on Technology Project under Arth Ganga. NMCG Capacity Building Programme under Arth Ganga Project aims to empower Ganga basin local community by working towards their economic upliftment

 

Objective of the Programme

 

    • Establishing ARTH Ganga Centres and Ganga Resource Centres (GRC).

    • set up capacity building training centres for the communities in Uttarakhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand

About Arth Ganga Project

 

    • Arth Ganga project was launched in 2019 to shift the focus from Namami Ganga to Arth Ganga

    • It envisages sustainable development of Ganga and its surrounding areas through economic activities related to Ganga river.

    • It strives to contribute at least 3% of GDP from Ganga Basin area itself.

    • There are six pillars in Arth Ganga Project

       

        • Zero Budget Natural Farming which includes chemical free farming up 10 km on both sides of the river.

        • Monetisation and reuse of sludge and wastewater in basin area.

        • To increase synergy between various stakeholders public participation will be encouraged.

        • Livelihood generating activities will be explored.

        • Institutional capacity building by enhancing local capacities for better decentralisation of water govenance.

        • Promoting cultural heritage and tourism of Ganga.

About National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG)

 

    • NMCG was registered as a society under Society Registration Act 1860.

    • It act as implementation arm of National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) which was constituted under the provision of Environment Protection Act (EPA) 1986.

    • It envisages five tier structure at national, state and district level to take measures for prevention, control and abatement of environment pollution in river Ganga and to ensure continuous adequate flow of water to rejuvenate Ganga river.

    • Five tier structure are

       

        • National Ganga Council under Chairmanship of PM

        • Empowered Task Force (ETF) under Chairmanship of Minister of Jal Shakti

        • National Mission for Clean Ganga

        • State Ganga Committees

        • District Ganga Committees in every specified district
